Associate Studio Programme 11 : Daria Blum

In mid April we had a studio visit from Artist Daria Blum in the Stockwell studio.
The visit was prompted by a personal interest in her work and an interest in prompting a detailed conversation about performance within the group which includes performance artists, non-performance artists and people in between. I also thought it would valuable for us to hear from someone who had been part of the ASP and was now working as an artist.
Daria talked about both her performance and installations, as well as her video and sculpture practice. We had very thought provoking conversations about what performance means and found we all had different perspectives, with us also rethinking past works and wondering about if they could be recontextualised as performances, which was an interesting and unexpected outcome.
We discussed the difficulties of performance documentation and how that process is very unique to each artist and dependant on their practice.
Gaining insights on life after graduation, and the Associate Programme was really helpful. The whole evening felt very inquisitive and lively. Lizzie Allison
