Associate Studio Programme : Youkobo, Tokyo exchange 2015

In partnership with Youkobo Art Space Tokyo, and Tokyo Geidai (Tokyo University of the Arts) the Associate Studio has provided an opportunity for two Associates to spend six weeks based at Youkobo in their own work/live studio, while the Associate Programme hosts two Tokyo based recent graduates. The two Associates, selected through open submission who were based in Tokyo from 1 May – 15 June, and 16 June – 31 July 2015 respectively, are Lydia Davies and Chris Ifould.
Taking their places; Shiori Higashiyama and Wataru Ozu, who recently graduated from the MFA at Tokyo Geidai, lived in the home of a Japanese artist based in London and worked alongside the other Associates in the shared studio space in Stockwell.
In addition, for each Tokyo artist several professional development and networking opportunities were created – they benefited from visits to the studio by artists, both group and one-to-one meetings and one-to-one visits to other artist’s studios in London. In Tokyo the Associates made public presentations of their work at Youkobo and joined workshops at Tokyo Geidai. Each of the residencies concluded with an exhibition of work in the Yokobo gallery.
